Repair the Pipe, Not Your Garden

The traditional fix for a broken underground drain is to dig a trench, lift the old pipe and lay a new one. That means torn-up paving, lawns or floors, and a bigger bill to put it all back.

Relining repairs the pipe from the inside instead. A new liner is fed through the existing drain and set in place, sealing the cracks, joints and root entry points, so in most cases nothing needs to be dug up.

Signs a Drain Might Need Relining

Blockages that keep coming back no matter how often the drain is cleared, tree roots in the line, damp patches or sinking ground over a drain run, and bad smells outside the house can all point to a cracked or broken pipe.

Older clay and cement drains are especially prone to cracking and root ingress as they age. A drain camera inspection shows whether relining is the right fix, or whether the pipe needs replacing.

How Pipe Relining Works

From the first look down the drain to a sealed, working pipe.

  1. Camera Inspection: A drain camera shows exactly where the damage is and whether the pipe can be relined.
  2. Written Quote: You get a written quote based on what the camera found, before any work starts.
  3. Clean the Line: The drain is cleared of roots and build-up so the liner can bond to the old pipe.
  4. Reline and Check: The new liner is installed and set, then the line is checked again to confirm it's sound.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pipe Relining in Cape Town

  • Pipe relining repairs a damaged drain from the inside. A new liner is fed into the existing pipe and set in place, forming a sealed pipe within the old one, so the pipe doesn't have to be dug up.

  • Usually not. Relining is done through existing access points, so in most cases there's no trench through your paving, garden or floors.

  • We start with a drain camera inspection to see exactly where the damage is and how bad it is. Some pipes are too collapsed to reline, and we'll tell you straight if that's the case.

  • Yes. You deal with T‑Rex Plumbing from the first call and camera inspection through to the finished job and the final invoice.

  • It depends on the length of pipe, its size, and how much damage there is, so we quote after the camera inspection. Every quote is in writing.
