Leak Detection in Cape Town
High water bill, damp patch, or a sound behind a wall - we find it and fix it
T‑Rex Plumbing has repaired leaks across Cape Town since 2011, based in the Southern Suburbs, with confirmed recent work in Claremont.
Signs You Might Have a Hidden Leak
A water bill that's climbed without a clear reason, a damp patch on a wall or ceiling that keeps coming back, a hissing sound behind a wall, or a water meter that keeps ticking when every tap's off - these are the investigative, non-obvious cases.
If you've got an actual burst pipe right now, that's an emergency - see our Emergency Plumber page for fast help.

How We Find Leaks Without Digging Up Your Property
Leak detection uses specialist equipment. The two methods that work best are acoustic listening equipment, which picks up the sound of escaping water through floors and walls, and nitrogen gas pressure testing, where the line is filled with nitrogen and we listen for the point where it escapes.
Used together, they narrow the leak down to a precise spot, so only that area needs to be opened up. If the pipe is buried somewhere it can't sensibly be reached, we reroute around it instead.

What It Costs, and What Moves the Number
There's no single price for leak detection - the real cost depends on how straightforward the leak is to trace and whether it's behind a wall, under a floor, or underground.
Because every leak is different, we don't publish a fixed price. Tell us what you're seeing and we'll explain what's likely to be involved before anything is booked.

How the Job Runs
We've kept the process simple on purpose.
- Call, Text, or WhatsApp: Tell us what you're seeing and we'll find a time to come take a look.
- We Locate the Leak: We trace exactly where the leak is before we open anything up.
- We Give You a Quote: You'll know what the job involves before we start any work.
- We Repair and Confirm the Fix: We make sure the leak's actually gone before we leave.

Frequently Asked Questions About Leak Detection in Cape Town
A water bill that's climbed without a clear reason, a damp patch that keeps coming back, a hissing sound behind a wall, or a water meter that keeps ticking over when everything's switched off are all signs.
It depends on where the leak is and what's causing it, so there isn't a fixed price. Get in touch and we'll talk you through what's likely to be involved before anything is booked.
Yes, in most cases. Acoustic listening equipment and nitrogen gas pressure testing let us pinpoint where the leak is before anything is opened up.
An unexplained jump in your water bill is one of the clearest signs of a hidden leak - usually underground or behind a wall, not somewhere you'd spot it by eye.
It varies a lot. Some leaks are found in minutes; one buried deep under a house can take much longer. If a pipe is buried somewhere it can't sensibly be reached, we can reroute around the leaking section instead.
