Geyser Repairs & Installation in Cape Town
No hot water is never convenient - we repair, replace, and install geysers fast
T‑Rex Plumbing has installed and repaired geysers across Cape Town since 2011, based in the Southern Suburbs, with confirmed recent work in Claremont.
Signs Your Geyser Needs Attention
A geyser rarely fails without warning. A damp patch on the ceiling below it, a clicking or knocking sound, water that runs lukewarm instead of hot, or a spike in your electricity bill are all worth a look before they become a burst geyser at 11pm.

Our Core Geyser Services
Southern Suburbs homes often have older geysers tucked into tight roof spaces - we know how to work with them.
Geyser Repairs
Diagnosed properly before we replace anything.
Geyser Replacement & Installation
Like-for-like swaps, or a full new install.
Solar Geyser Installation & Retrofits
Required for at least 50% of hot water heating on new Cape Town builds - a real saving on existing homes too.
Geyser Leaks
Usually a valve, a corroded tank, or a loose fitting.
Geyser Not Heating
Element, thermostat, or an old geyser giving up - we check before we replace.
Geyser Making Noise or Tripping the Electrics
Sediment build-up, a failing element, or a wiring fault.
Compliance & Safety Valve Checks
Part of every installation. See our C.O.C. inspection page.
Electric vs. Solar vs. Gas Geysers: What Cape Town Homes Should Consider
The right choice depends on your roof, budget, and hot water usage.
Electric
Lowest upfront cost, the standard option, but the highest running cost of the four.
Solar
New builds and full renovations must heat at least 50% of their hot water by an alternative to a standard element. Higher upfront cost, low running cost.
Heat Pump
Lower running costs than a standard electric element, without a roof full of solar panels.
Gas
Near-instant hot water and no tank to fail. See our dedicated gas geyser page.
What a New Geyser or Repair Costs, and What Moves the Number
There's no single price for geyser work - the real cost depends on the type of geyser (electric, solar, or heat pump), whether it's a repair or a full replacement, and how accessible the installation is.
As a guide: a standard repair, like replacing the element and thermostat, usually runs R2,700 to R3,900. A proper, compliant geyser replacement is around R16,500. If your geyser is old or the tank itself is leaking, replacing it is usually the better long-term spend, and we'll tell you honestly which makes sense.

Geyser repair
Excellent service! My geyser was pulling around 24 units of electricity a day and he came out and diagnosed and fixed the issue. He spent over two hours here making sure everything was sorted. The most incredible service from Trevor. I contacted him on Saturday morning and he was at our property shortly thereafter. Professional, extremely reasonably priced and exceptionally helpful. I cannot recommend him more
Kelly DillonGoogle reviewToilet and water pressure
Trevor and his team helped us on short notice with a toilet issue as well as a water pressure/temperature issue in our house. Trevor’s communication/admin before, during and after the job was a stand out. He also explained each issue and how it could be fixed in detail, which we valued.

Frequently Asked Questions About Geyser Repairs in Cape Town
Most standard electric geysers last 8-15 years depending on water quality and maintenance. Coastal and hard-water areas tend to shorten that.
A proper, compliant geyser replacement is around R16,500. A standard repair, like replacing the element and thermostat, usually runs R2,700 to R3,900.
Depends on your roof, budget, and hot water usage. Solar and heat pump both cut running costs over a standard electric element - see the comparison below. For most houses we recommend a heat pump: it costs less to run and is cheaper to install than solar, with the element kept as a backup. Gas suits homes without a reliable electricity supply.
Yes, a new geyser installation typically requires a Certificate of Compliance. We handle COC inspections too.
Usually a failed pressure valve, a corroded tank, or a loose fitting. We diagnose before replacing anything - not every leak means a new geyser.
